Scandal in Germany: a right-wing deputy turned out to be a business owner in Belarus

For false information in the declaration, a deputy faces a fine of more than 40 thousand euros.

A deputy from the far-right political party Alternative for Germany “(AfD) faces a heavy fine for concealing information about a business it owns in Belarus.

BILD writes about this.

“A member of the State Parliament of Saxony from the AfD, Jörg Dornau, has been registered as the owner of an agricultural business in Belarus since 2020. His company can be found in the Unified State Register of Belarus under the name Tsybulka Bel LLC,” the material says.

The company, owned by Dornau, cultivates several hundred hectares of Belarusian agricultural land, which is located near the Lithuanian and Polish border. “Tsybulka Bel” is engaged in the cultivation of vegetables, melons and root crops.

The conduct of business by deputies in itself is not prohibited by German laws, but Dornau hid this information and did not indicate the Belarusian business in the declaration of property and income.

Such information about MPs in Germany is public, and the state parliament website states that Dornau only owns one business in his hometown of Born.

“Dornau did not provide parliament with any information about any business activity in Belarus. After the information appeared in the media, the head of the state parliament asked Mr. Dornau to comment on the situation,” said parliamentary representative Ivo Klatte.

It is also reported that if information about the deputy’s undeclared business is confirmed, Dornau will have to pay a fine of more than 40 thousand euros.

The right-wing radical deputy himself has not yet commented on the situation.
