Save the Aral Sea: Lake Preservation Discussed in Turkmenistan
Save the Aral. A video conference on the topic “Multilateral dialogue on the development of cooperation in the Aral Sea region” was held in Turkmenistan. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and the State Committee for Water Resources of the country, according to the TV channel “MIR 24”.
“As you know, saving the Aral Sea is a complex problem, without which it is difficult to imagine sustainable development in Central Asia. And in terms of its environmental and socio-economic consequences, this problem has long gone beyond the regional scale and turned into a global crisis, ”said Berdi Berdiev, head of the Department for Coordination of International Environmental Cooperation and Projects of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

The conference discussed the efforts and initiatives undertaken by Turkmenistan in addressing environmental issues in the Aral Sea basin, ways to develop cooperation to preserve environmental welfare in the Central Asian region and join efforts with international organizations.
“As a result of the green environmental policy pursued by the respected President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a great deal of work is being done in Turkmenistan to respect natural resources,” said Pirli Kepbanov, director of the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Wildlife of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
From 2017 to 2019, Turkmenistan was the chairman of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
