The bride of the murdered journalist Jemal Hashkuji, Khatije Cengiz, has filed a lawsuit against the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, and he has already received a notification. This is reported by The Independent with reference to Cengiz's lawyers.
It is clarified that the lawsuit itself was filed in the United States last year, while the royal lawyers received the notification only now. In the lawsuit, Mohammed bin Salman is accused of kidnapping and murdering Hashkuji.
“The ruthless torture and murder of Mr. Hashkuji shocked the world scientific community,” the statement said. It is noted that with the help of the crime, the attackers allegedly tried to stop Hashkuji, who advocated democratic reforms in Arab countries.
“This is an important point. The Crown Prince's attorneys have been brought to trial, which means that the case can now be continued, ”said Faisal Gill, managing partner at Gill Law Firm and one of the attorneys representing Cengiz. It is noted that three lawyers are represented in the court documents as representatives of the Saudi prince.
On February 26, US National Intelligence released a report in which it accused the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman, of approving an operation to kidnap or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Hashkuji. After that, the US administration imposed visa sanctions on 76 citizens of Saudi Arabia, who, according to the State Department, “threatened dissidents abroad, appeared in the murder of Hashkuji, and not only in it.”
Hashkuji disappeared without a trace on October 2, 2018 after a visit to the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul. The journalist went there to obtain documents that would help him to file a divorce and marry a Turkish woman. Turkish media, citing sources in law enforcement and investigative agencies, reported that the authorities have confirmation that Hashkuji was brutally tortured in the consulate building and then killed.
