Saudi Arabia decided to reconcile the United States and Iran and facilitate the signing of a new treaty to replace the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) to resolve Tehran's nuclear program. The head of the Kingdom of Foreign Affairs Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud announced this in an interview with CNBC.
The head of the department proposed to name the new agreement JCPOA ++: it may affect not only the nuclear program, but also, for example, Iran's ballistic missile programs, which “contribute to the destruction of the region.” Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud believes that the new treaty should resolve the Islamic Republic's interference in military conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Iraq.
Saudi Arabia, in turn, needs to become a “partner in discussions” between Washington and Tehran. The head of the Saudi Foreign Ministry also assessed the policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump towards the Iranian side. Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud believes that the maximum pressure on Iran was successful.
On November 10, it was reported that Trump may want to carry out an operation against Iran after the dismissal of Pentagon chief Mark Esper. The Daily Mail wrote about such suspicions with reference to officials at the Ministry of Defense. Later, information appeared that the American leader wanted to strike at an object in the Iranian city of Netenz, but the White House did not comment on this.
In 2018, the United States reinstated sanctions against Iran in full, and also withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), which limits Iran's nuclear development. Washington called it a response to the “export of violence, terror and disorder.”
