Lee Jae Young, vice president of Samsung Electronics, who is called the “crown prince of Samsung”, was sent to prison several months ago on bribery charges. Now it became known that he was released on parole. This outcome was supported by some of the South Koreans.
Lee Jae Young will be released on Friday August 13th. As noted by the media, his freedom may be short-lived, since he is pending two more criminal cases against him. Lee Jae Young is believed to have been involved in accounting fraud and other wrongdoing during Samsung C&T's merger with Cheil Industries.
If Lee receives a prison sentence for any of the other cases, his parole will be canceled. However, South Korea is currently revising the law, which could prevent this cancellation.
