Salzburg dreams of advancement:

Salzburg's successful coach Matthias Jaissle is proud of his team

Coach Matthias Jaissle is slowly running out of words. After their 3-1 home win against Wolfsburg, his Salzburg team are in first place in Group G with seven points – and are therefore fully on course for the round of 16. Sevilla are now four points behind, Lille and Wolfsburg even five each. “It's just a great story,” Jaissle shook her head, almost in disbelief, “now is the time when we can enjoy the Champions League games.”

Bad math

He doesn't want to talk about the knockout phase yet, and certainly doesn't want to play arithmetic games after which a win in Wolfsburg could perhaps fix the promotion on the next match day. “Maths was a bad subject for me at school”, the 33-year-old German grins, “we want to keep showing our football, and we want to be bold and courageous again in Wolfsburg. Define ourselves less using the table.”

The performance in the win against Wolfsburg was “close to 100 percent, as I imagine it to be”. What does that do to him and the team? “It makes me proud. And hopefully the team has a lot of self-confidence.”

Match winner

The first success of an Austrian team against a German team in the Champions League was made possible by a Swiss. Noah Okafor scored his first two goals in the premier class, thus fixing the 3-1 final result. “I'm happy with the goals, but even happier with three points.”

In contrast to his coach, he lets out at least a few words with regard to a possible round of 16: “If we continue like this, give full throttle in every game and try to play our game, then we have great chances for the knockout phase.”

Goalscorers among themselves: Adeyemi (left) and Okafor.

Adeyemi honored

This time shooting star Karim Adeyemi “only” scored one goal. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the numerous transfer rumors: “It's just a lot of fun to play here.” And all the speculation, his advisor is said to have already negotiated with Bayern: “I'm very relaxed about it, I have my focus here at Salzburg. Of course, I feel honored, but nothing more.” What is his career plan? “I want to get to the last sixteen with Salzburg first, then we'll look further.”
