Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili's lawyers published another letter of his, which he wrote in prison. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Zvezda TV channel.

It is noted that in it Saakashvili appealed to his supporters and urged them not to relax and “resist the authorities even more.”

The ex-president also rejoiced at the success of the opposition parties in the last municipal elections.

Earlier, the leader of the United National Movement party, Nika Melia, announced a protest at the prison in Rustavi for the release of Saakashvili. Supporters of the For Georgia movement intend to hold a similar rally.

Prior to that, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia published the first results of the municipal elections, which took place on October 2. After counting 38.63 percent of ballots with a score of 48.56 percent, the ruling Georgian Dream party was in the lead. In second place was Saakashvili's opposition party, the United National Movement (UNM), with 31.23 percent.

On October 1, Georgian authorities detained Saakashvili after he returned to the country after eight years of emigration. According to media reports, the politician secretly crossed the Georgian border in the ventilation cabin of the trailer. Earlier, the politician himself stated that he had come to Georgia to participate in protest actions after the elections.
