Russians who escaped coronavirus found cellular immunity to infection

Russian scientists studied cellular immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and came to the conclusion that it can appear in both those who have had the infection and those who have escaped it. The newspaper “Izvestia” writes about this.

It is noted that in blood samples taken in the spring of this year from those who did not have an infection, there are significantly more T cells that recognize the virus than in those taken before the pandemic. According to scientists, this is due to the fact that those who did not recover from the coronavirus somehow managed to face it.

Researchers admit that they do not fully understand the nature of this phenomenon. One of the versions of its origin is explained by the consequences of the asymptomatic course of the disease. “The T-cell response can be observed due to the fact that immunological memory cells are activated for other coronaviruses that existed around us before 2019,” said Alina Shomuradova, an employee of the National Medical Research Center for Hematology.

Earlier, Russian doctor Andrei Kondrakhin said that the main threat of a new epidemic would be people's resistance to antibiotics, which are used to treat viral pneumonia. At the same time, there is a risk in ignoring other diseases, for example, influenza or adenovirus.
