Russian tourists with the bankruptcy of travel agencies were offered to pay the minimum guaranteed compensation in the amount of 40 thousand rubles. As the head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova said in an interview with RBC, the department is preparing changes to the legislation.

She noted that the system of financial guarantees provided now does not allow tourists in the event of bankruptcy of a tour operator to receive significant compensation or a significant part of the paid voucher.

According to Doguzova, by the end of this year Rostourism will submit the bill for public discussion. “Its size is still being determined, but now we see it in the amount of 40 thousand rubles per person – this is how much each tourist should have the right to receive in case of bankruptcy of a tour operator,” the head of the department explained.

She stressed that the mechanism will protect families with low incomes, and provide one hundred percent reimbursement of the cost of a budget tour or significant compensation for a more expensive tour. For example, a family of four who bought an all-inclusive ticket to Turkey for 150-200 thousand rubles will be able to receive 160 thousand rubles of compensation in the event of the bankruptcy of a travel agency.

For such support of Russians, Rosturizm proposes to create a collective responsibility fund. Tour operators will transfer a contribution of about 250 rubles to this fund for each tourist who is sent on vacation.

Earlier in December, executive director of the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) Maya Lomidze named Turkey the most popular foreign destination among domestic travelers in 2021. According to preliminary estimates, 4.6 million Russians visited the country this year. In second place was Egypt – since the restoration of charter and regular flights, 680 thousand tourists from Russia have visited the republic.
