131 thousand Russian tourists arrived in Cuba in 2021

The Russians have taken the leading position in terms of the tourist flow to Cuba. This was announced by the Consul General of Russia in Havana Nana Mgeladze, writes TASS.
Thus, Russians became the most numerous category of tourists who visited the republic in 2021 – according to the National Center for Statistics and Information of Cuba, 131 thousand travelers from Russia had arrived on the island by December. In second place are the citizens of Canada – 33 thousand people.
“It should be noted that the opening of borders and an increase in tourist traffic is primarily due to the fact that Cuba vaccinated almost 100 percent of its population over the age of two. Only thanks to this it became possible to invite tourists from all over the world, ”says Mgeladze.
The Consul General also noted that despite the settlement of the situation with the coronavirus in Cuba, all travelers are strongly encouraged to take out medical insurance.
Earlier, in October, it was reported that Russian tourists became the leaders in terms of attendance in the Maldives in 2021. Thus, the share of those who visited the country reached almost 18 percent – the number of tourists from Russia outstripped the number of tourists in Europe: the share of Germans – 6 percent, British – 1.4 percent, Italians – 1 percent.
