The Russians were advised to remove five types of apps from their smartphones. The list of useless and harmful programs was compiled by the columnist for Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Anton Blagoveshchensky.
The expert advised the first to remove the caller IDs from the phone, since they give out the owner's name along with his number to “everyone who wants it”.
Also, the Russians were urged to get rid of applications to save battery power. “They usually look cool by showing the charge level and suggesting to hit the magic button. But this will not give any effect – at best, the most difficult programs will be unloaded from memory, which will soon be loaded again, spending even more system resources, ”notes Blagoveshchensky.
The third type of application to remove is memory cleaners. They “aggressively throw out running applications from memory,” and the effect of them is rather short-lived, the correspondent explained.
Apps that can be uninstalled include a flashlight. There is no sense in downloading another tool, since it is automatically built into any mobile operating system. At the same time, downloaded flashlights often require access to the address book, call list or messages.
Scanners, QR codes, and documents are also worth getting rid of as these features are built into the camera app and Google Drive. The specialist recalled that quite recently, malicious functionality was found in one of these applications.
Earlier in February, the popular Barcode Scanner app, which allows you to scan barcodes, infected millions of smartphones with malicious content. The program with dangerous content has been downloaded over 10 million times. Initially, the program did not arouse suspicion and did not have harmful properties. However, in the latest update, the researchers found a dangerous feature that the description was silent about.
