Roskomnadzor warned Russian users of the WhatsApp messenger about insufficient protection of personal data, TASS reports.
The department recalled that the messenger has been transmitting data about its users to Facebook since 2014.
“Citizens of Russia must clearly understand the risks associated with the transfer of their personal data to foreign companies,” the message says.
Roskomnadzor noted that Russian and European legislation in the field of personal data protection is stricter than in the United States.
Hour X: WhatsApp Reveals Dissenters Disconnect Date
By the end of May, Roskomnadzor expects from WhatsApp and Facebook to confirm the localization of data of Russian users in the territory of the Russian Federation, otherwise the companies will be brought to administrative responsibility.
Some time ago, as Rambler reported, WhatsApp added a clause to the user agreement on the transfer of personal information to Facebook, which owns it. In March, the messenger began to notify users that if they refuse to accept the new terms of use and privacy policy, from May 15, they will not be able to read and send messages.
