Russians warned about the dangers of installing pirated applications on Android

by alex

Some users, not wanting to pay for applications, install pirated copies of them. The expert told how this could be fraught.

Daniil Chernov, director of the Solar appScreener center of Rostelecom-Solar, spoke to Rossiyskaya Gazeta about this. He said that cybercriminals mostly distribute free copies of applications. “This is an attractive package for the mass user, in which hackers wrap malicious functions. These may include ransomware that encrypts all data on a device or completely blocks access to it, demanding a ransom in return; Trojans and keyloggers that discreetly send user data, including logins and passwords, to a third-party server; remote access programs and others, ”the specialist listed.

According to him, criminals monitor popular searches for pirated versions of programs. They then insert malicious code into copies of popular apps.

The expert clarified that sometimes people run into dangerous applications on purpose. This happens if you use not the Google Play Store, but another official Android application store, which does not check programs well.

Applications are sometimes offered to be installed from the official website of the developer. In this case, it is worth analyzing what is being downloaded: pay attention to what the program is requesting access to.
