Roman Shamin, director of the Physics and Technology Institute of RTU MIREA, warned Russians about the dangers of an “incomprehensible black sensor” that users notice on the end of Chinese smartphones. His words are quoted by “Prime”.
According to Shamin, this is an infrared radiation (IR) sensor, which is not found on modern Apple and Samsung smartphones. Its presence allows you to use your smartphone as a TV control panel or lighting in the room.
“However, such a connection is not always safe from the point of view of data confidentiality, since the simplicity of the connection can cause unauthorized access to the smartphone, depending on its security settings,” the expert noted.
Shamin added that this technology has advantages. For example, devices can “communicate” through an IR sensor rather than through Bluetooth, which requires mutual registration. According to him, it would be convenient to replace with a smartphone the remote control for the TV, in which “you constantly need to change the batteries.”
“You may ask why the flagship smartphones of well-known manufacturers do not have such a port. The answer is simple – the presence of such a sensor is not a user standard for smartphones, therefore, in the conditions of fierce competition, manufacturers are forced to save on all additional devices, ”Shamin explained.
In his opinion, the infrared port is quite convenient, but the future belongs to things that will make up a “smart home”. “Accordingly, the management of such a house will already be using the global Internet, for which infrared ports will not be needed,” the expert concluded.
Earlier, Elvina Nasibulina, an analyst-researcher of digital products of Roskachestvo, warned Russians about the possible management of smartphones without their knowledge if the rules of digital hygiene are not followed. According to her, malicious software (software) can get into the phone, and spyware can also track the owner.
