Russians Want to Create a New Branch of the Military: What Are They Talking About?

by alex

Putin noted the need to increase the quantitative indicators for the production of drones and expand the training of drone operators taking into account combat experience.

Russia intends to form “troops of unmanned systems”. The creation of the new structure should be completed in the third quarter of next year.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said this at one of the meetings of the board of the Russian Defense Ministry, writes Defesce Express.

According to Belousov:

As the Russians themselves note, the creation of a new branch of the military presupposes the creation of a “theory and practice of preparing for conducting combat operations on an operational scale.” In general, it looks like the Russian Federation is planning to create a new structure not on paper, but taking into account all the features and needs, including personnel training and reorganization of certain training programs. How this will all happen in practice is another story,” the publication says.

The Russian Federation notes a critical need to form separate units for unmanned systems (for now, apparently, we are talking primarily about the air component), infrastructure, support, etc. In particular, the creation of separate divisions is being considered, while at the same time, units of unmanned systems troops, by analogy with air defense troops, will be part of the ground, air forces, etc.

“In addition, Russian experts note the need for strategic reconnaissance drones, and directly talk about the need to copy the experience of the United States in this area,” Defesce Express summarized.

Recall that a military facility caught fire in Russia in the Alabuga economic zone. As a result, a train with parts for the Shaheds worth $16 million was destroyed.
