The court issued an arrest warrant for both defendants.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany detained two Russians suspected of financing the terrorist group “Islamic state”.
This is stated in a message on the department's website.
“Today, July 25, 2024, the Federal Prosecutor's Office arrested Russians Abdulrashit D. and Surkho S. on the basis of arrest warrants issued by an investigating judge of the Federal Court,” the message says.
The Russians were arrested in Hamburg and in Schleswig-Holstein. At the same time, searches were carried out at seven locations in Berlin, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony on behalf of the Federal Prosecutor's Office.
The detained Russians are charged with several articles of the Criminal Code, namely supporting a terrorist organization abroad, violating the law on foreign trade, and membership in a criminal organization.
The defendants in the case joined a criminal group in early summer 2022, the purpose of which was to collect money in European countries to then use to finance ISIS.
The court issued an arrest warrant for both defendants and allowed them to be held in custody for the duration of the investigation.
