The mayonnaise in the salad can be replaced with other dressings that contain less fat. Nutritionist Natalya Kruglova told Russians about two healthy alternatives to the popular sauce in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“You can use Greek yogurt, which does not have such a characteristic sourness and is more neutral in taste. You can add, for example, salt, some spices there to bring it to such a taste that will be necessary for the dish. You can use low-fat sour cream, ”she said.
Kruglova added that vegetable oils, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce and lemon juice can also be used to dress the salad.
Talking about homemade mayonnaise, the doctor said there are some concerns about it due to raw eggs, which can lead to salmonellosis.
“Plus it also contains vegetable oil, egg yolk, which contains fats. Therefore, to say that it is beneficial from the standpoint of calorie content – no, not much, ”explained Kruglova. She suggested using light industrial mayonnaise as an alternative, since the factories have the opportunity to process products and make them less hazardous.
Earlier, Kruglova said that New Year's salads with dressings that have been on the table for a long time can be stored in the refrigerator for several hours – salads without dressing can stand for a day. She recommended not dressing a large amount of salad with mayonnaise at once.
