Russians began to pay better on loans, the number of defaulters decreased by 2 percent last year — to about six million people. This is stated in a study by the National Association of Professional Collection Agencies (NAPCA), RIA Novosti reports.

As a result, by the end of 2021, the number of debtors in Russia who have overdue debts to banks with a term of more than 90 days amounted to about six million Russians.

The probability of overdue loan payment depends on a number of factors. Thus, the most disciplined borrowers are pharmacists and IT specialists, among whom the share of debtors with overdue loans does not exceed 1 percent. In second place are medical staff: among them, the share of non-payers decreased from 5 percent to 3 percent over the year.

Also, builders began to fulfill credit obligations better, the share of debtors in this category decreased from 6 percent to 5 percent. Traditionally, a low “delay” is observed among public sector employees and military personnel of no more than 5 percent.

In addition, couriers have also improved payment discipline, although their share in the total portfolio is still quite high and is about 7 percent compared to 9 percent a year earlier.

In January 2022, the volume of mortgage issuance in Russia reached 327 billion rubles — in annual terms, the indicator increased by 24 percent. According to analysts, at the beginning of the year, Russians began to take out mortgages more actively due to the desire to issue a loan before a possible increase in rates in the future.
