And then, trying to take full control of the city of Severodonetsk, Russian infidels inflict massive artillery strikes on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And they are also trying to capture the positions of Ukrainian forces on the left bank of the Seversky Donets River. This was stated at a briefing by the Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Aleksey Gromov, Channel 24 reports.
“It is possible that the enemy will try to overcome the defense of our troops in Metelkino and Sirotina in order to gain a foothold on the left bank of the Seversky Donets River,” Alexey Gromov said.
Destroyed bridges
Across the river Seversky Donets had several bridges, through which supplies of supplies reached the defenders of Severodonetsk. But four of them were destroyed by the invaders.
“At present, four bridges across the Seversky Donets River have been destroyed by the enemy. But we have taken appropriate measures, carried out engineering reconnaissance, and identified the main and several backup options for ensuring supplies to the defenders of Severodonetsk,” Alexey Gromov assured.
United leadership of the defenders of Severodonetsk and Lysychanska
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided that all Ukrainian forces involved in the defense of Severodonetsk and Lysychanska should receive a unified leadership for their more effective work.
“Military units and subunits defending Severodonetsk and Lysychansk have been built into a single tactical group under a single leadership to increase the effectiveness and manageability of defense,” Oleksiy Gromov said.
From the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these are battalions of the tactical group troops, Ground Forces, units of the Special Operations Forces, Territorial Defense Forces and other units. From the National Guard – units of operational units.
“Severodonetsk is a key point in the system of defense operations in the Luhansk direction. The city cannot be considered in any other way,” Oleg Gromov said.
The enemy is trying to cut the “road of life”
Severodonetsk and Lysichansk are connected with the rest of the unoccupied territory of Ukraine by the Bakhmut-Lysichansk highway. The enemy has repeatedly tried to seize it in order to cut off supplies for Ukrainian troops in the encircled cities.
According to the General Staff, in the Bakhmut direction, the enemy is carrying out assault operations in order to improve the tactical situation. To do this, they carried out assault operations in the directions of Toshkovka – Ustinovka and Kamyshevakha – Zolote. I had no luck, so I left.
