With the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia lost its membership in the Danube Commission. At the same time, the powers of all representatives of the aggressor country were completely abolished.

As noted in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Danube Commission convened an extraordinary session immediately after the Russian invasion. At it, members of the commission strongly condemned the actions of Russia.

The commission removed representatives of the aggressor country from all its meetings and working bodies. And on June 15, at the regular session, the Danube Commission dissolved the preparatory committee of the Diplomatic Conference on the revision of the Convention on the Regime of Navigation on the Danube, which also included Russia. Now the members of this committee are the Danubian states, that is, without Russian representatives.

Thus, another step has been taken so that Russia not only receives a well-deserved punishment for its actions, but also that the issues of the development of navigation on the Danube are dealt with exclusively by the Danubian countries. – noted in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Danube Commission also reduced the diplomatic post of adviser in the Secretariat of the Danube Commission, which was held by the representative of Russia, and made changes to the rules of procedure of the Commission and a number of its regulations and internal provisions, according to which now < strong>not a single citizen of Russia will be able to qualify for diplomatic or administrative-technical. postsin the Secretariat of this one of the world's oldest international organizations.

“Thank you for the work of the Ukrainian team and our international partners, members of the Danube Commission, without whom these historic decisions would not have been possible,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added.

Pay attention! Ever since the beginning of the 90s, Ukraine opposed Russia's participation in the commission, because it is not a Danubian state. However, Moscow received this right as the legal successor of the USSR. At that time, Ukraine was unable to convince its partners.

It was decided that restrictions will remain in effect until the renewal of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its legal borders.

Previously, Russia for the war against Ukraine lost membership in the Danube Commission. The corresponding decision was made by the commission on March 17 at an extraordinary session. The reason was Russia's military aggression against Ukraine in violation of the basic principles of the Belgrade Convention. The Commission condemned the violation of the principles of free and safe navigation on the Danube.
