More than a third of Russians are addicted to watching short videos on TikTok and Instagram stories and cannot imagine their day without it. As it turned out, most active people simply do not have time to watch long videos.

This picture was shown by the data of the VTsIOM poll among Russians over 18 years old. Almost half of the respondents agreed that the format of short videos is more suitable for the modern pace of life than films and series. Most often, this opinion is shared by Russians from 18 to 24 years old.

36% of respondents disagree with this statement. Nevertheless, 69% have watched short videos in the last six months – most often in transport (21%), while eating (19%) or at home (16%). Of these, 48% have long made it a habit and watch videos with the same frequency as before, 18% began to watch them more often, and 30% less often.

In terms of viewing time, the situation has not changed for 47% of respondents, and 38% began to devote stories, videos and series with episodes of 10-15 minutes less time than six months earlier. Another 12% were able to increase the viewing time, most often they were young people 18-24 years old.

Nevertheless, 44% of Russians noted that the lack of time was the main reason for their love for short videos. 45% are of the opposite opinion and prefer to devote their free time to something solid. Most often, the large format is preferred by elderly people over 60 years old (62%) and young people from 18 to 24, who have enough time left from their studies at the institute. But Russians aged 25–34 years (61%) and 35–40 years old (54%) absolutely do not have enough time for long series and full-length films.

According to a report by the analytical service App Annie, in 2020, Russians spent a total of 94 billion hours in mobile applications. The average citizen of the country watches about 16.5 hours of short videos per month.
