Russians reported shelling of Belgorod on the morning of September 16, air defense was active. Apartments were damaged, cars were on fire.
This was reported by Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov and Russian Telegram channels.
A series of explosions were heard over Belgorod, eyewitnesses said. Air raid sirens were heard in the city and the air defense system was in operation.
Local residents report heavy smoke and a large number of fires in the city: apartments in residential buildings and cars are on fire. In particular, it is indicated that one of the shells hit an apartment on the 15th floor of a residential building. Windows were knocked out and balconies were destroyed.
There is also a video online showing a private house engulfed in flames. The author of the video claims a direct hit.
Gladkov confirmed the statements about residential buildings being hit and cars catching fire.
“I started recording the morning message, the sirens started wailing, and the shelling of the city of Belgorod began. So far, information has appeared about cars catching fire, about residential buildings being hit,” the governor said in a video address.
Later, he reported that, according to preliminary data, eight civilians were injured. One of the victims is in critical condition, while the others have moderate injuries.
According to Gladkov, a private house and more than 15 cars caught fire as a result of direct hits. In 21 apartment buildings, the glazing was damaged. In the territory of four private houses, windows were knocked out, roofs and facades were cut. A gas pipeline was also damaged.
Recall that on the night of September 15, Ukrainian drones attacked seven regions of Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry traditionally assured that all targets were shot down.
