A group of Russians and one citizen of Ukraine have been released from Libyan captivity, said Alexander Malkevich, a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, on his Telegram channel.
He noted that a few weeks ago they were captured and abducted in Libya. “I would also like to note that after the story with Maxim Shugaley, Russians in Libya and in the Arab world in general began to be treated much more seriously and much more respectfully,” Malkevich wrote.
Maksim Shugaley and Samer Sueifan, employees of the Foundation for the Protection of National Values, detained in May 2019 in Libya, were released on December 10. They were accused of trying to interfere in the presidential elections in the country and meeting with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the country's former leader Muammar Gaddafi.
At the beginning of 2019, the Foundation for the Protection of National Values launched a project to study public opinion and analyze the current situation in Libya.
