During the test cycle, the new Russian Zircon hypersonic missile was successfully launched almost ten times from a surface ship, twice from a submarine. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Northern Fleet of Russia.
“The crew of the lead frigate of Project 22350” Admiral Gorshkov “has successfully carried out a complex of tests of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile,” the press service of the fleet said. It is also indicated that the crew of the lead nuclear submarine of project 885 Yasen, Severodvinsk, performed two test firing of the Zircon.
The Northern Fleet said that in 2021 they provided more than 70 tests of new weapons, including the Zircon hypersonic missile and the Dagger airborne hypersonic missile system.
On December 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a salvo launch of the Zircon hypersonic missiles. According to the head of state, this missile is the latest development, which can be sent to both sea and land targets. He called the missile “a significant step in improving the security and defense capabilities of Russia.”
