The US Court of Appeal approved the petition of the Russian woman Bogdana Osipova, convicted for the abduction and removal of her own children from the country, as well as for the “extortion of an international scale”, to release her as soon as possible and suspend the process of her transfer to Kansas for a second sentence. This is reported by TASS with reference to the lawyer of the Russian woman Joshua Lotter.
The lawyer added that the appellate court ordered the federal court to issue a new decision on the release of Osipova by October 30, “bearing in mind the fact that she has already served the maximum possible sentence.” The woman will be released in the coming days.
On June 7, 2019, the Federal District Court of Wichita, Kansas, found the 38-year-old Russian woman guilty and ordered to return the children to the United States. According to the investigation, in 2014 Osipova took two children out of the country without her husband's consent. By that time, the couple had begun the divorce proceedings. In Russia, a woman gave birth to a third child: the couple have two children together, the eldest child was born from the first marriage of a Russian woman. In 2017, she arrived in Wichita, where she was detained. The children continued to stay in Russia.
