Russian Nikolai Erofeev was freed from more than 23 years of slavery at a poultry farm. RIA Novosti reports about this with reference to the Polsat TV channel.
The 59-year-old man has been a slave to local farmers for over 23 years. He managed to escape and find shelter with a couple of local residents. He said that he found himself in slavery after he remained illegally in Poland after the collapse of the USSR: he was a civilian specialist at the military unit and did not want to leave after the troops began to withdraw.
“I worked on a farm, the owner was very pleased, but there was such a rumor that it was as if they would catch those who work illegally. The owner got scared and brought me to the Shch family. There was, of course, enough work, non-stop. But then I was young and strong, ”said Erofeev, noting that he was not paid money. The owner of the poultry farm did not allow him to go out into the city, did not give his documents and regularly beat him.
After his release, the Russian wants to stay in Poland: according to him, he is used to it and it is easier for him to communicate in Polish than in Russian. The lawyer, hired by the family who took the man in, is going to legalize Erofeev's presence in the country.
The problem of modern slavery is also familiar to the inhabitants of the Russian state. So, in early September, the employees of the collection agency threatened a resident of Yekaterinburg that they would take her underage son “to the aul to graze sheep,” and she herself would be forced into prostitution.
