About 20 combat Russian ships of the Caspian flotilla went to the exercises in the Caspian Sea. This was reported in the press service of the Southern Military District (SMD), RIA Novosti reports.

“A heterogeneous grouping of the naval forces of the Caspian Flotilla left the base point of Makhachkala for the designated area of the Caspian Sea to participate in a planned command and staff exercise,” the press service of the Southern Military District said.

They also reported that the crews of about 20 warships of the flotilla were taking part in the maneuvers. These included Dagestan, small missile ships Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich, Veliky Ustyug, Makhachkala, Astrakhan, Stupinets, small artillery ships, base minesweepers, boats, as well as support vessels .

The crews of the ships will work out joint actions in sailing in a single marching order, repulsing the means of air attack of a mock enemy and conducting mock naval combat.

The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the forces of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the oceans and to counter Russian military threats from sea and ocean directions.

Earlier it was reported that NATO frigates tried to conduct electronic reconnaissance of Russian ships during exercises in the Mediterranean. As a result, the crews of Russian missile cruisers detected the radiation from radar stations (RLS) of the ships of the North Atlantic Alliance, determined the parameters of their movement and took them for escort.
