Russian virologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the cell proliferation laboratory at the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology, Pyotr Chumakov, in an interview with URA.RU, spoke about the degree of protection of vaccinations against COVID-19.
Coronavirus vaccination reduces the chances of dying from infection by about 80 percent, he said. “The chance of dying is contentedly low. Weakened people and those with chronic diseases have such a chance, and vaccination will significantly reduce it, ”the specialist said, urging to be vaccinated.
He added that it is necessary to do a booster dose that will increase the amount of antibodies.
Earlier, a general practitioner, clinical pharmacologist Andrei Kondrakhin said that the coronavirus is running out of ability to mutate, so the omicron strain may be its last option. He explained that the virus has already adapted enough to humans, and will probably stop at its current level.
A new strain of coronavirus, code B.1.1.529, was identified in South Africa on November 11. The first confirmed cases of infection date from November 24.
