Russian Tu-142 anti-submarine aircraft entered the Alaska air defense identification zone. This was reported by the press service of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

At about 3:00 Moscow time, servicemen of the North American Aerospace Defense Command identified and tracked two Tu-142s entering the Alaska air defense identification zone. The aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US or Canadian airspace.

“On January 26, a pair of Tu-142MZ long-range anti-submarine aircraft of the Pacific Fleet naval aviation performed a planned flight over the waters of the Bering and Chukchi Seas,” the press service of the Eastern Military District for the Pacific Fleet reported.

They said that during this flight, the crews of the aircraft practiced the skills of flying over non-orientated terrain and piloting in the absence of ground radio-technical means of air navigation. The press service of the Air Defense Forces for the Pacific Fleet stressed that the flight was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
