Although the Russian invasion has stalled in most parts of Ukraine, enemy troops have made progress in the south of the country using the Syrian scenario. This is reported by CNN, citing the words — Mason Clark, lead analyst at the Institute for the Study of War.
The Russian attack on the coastal city of Mariupol, where hundreds of thousands of people have been trapped in continuous bombardments for weeks, “is torn from the textbook of Syria”, Clark claims.
According to the scientist, this tactic consists of: “targeting specific areas” and the use of less accurate weapons, which cause more brutal consequences and hit civilian infrastructure.
Mason Clark assures that Russian troopsdeliberately fire at waterworks and power sources, Internet towers and mobile communications, as well as knowingly committing crimes against civilians. Thus, the invaders are trying to bring the city's defenders to surrender.
If Mariupol falls, the next serious phase in the war may begin. Because it will free many Russian troops stalled in the operation, including some of the best units in Russia's Southern Military District, the analyst warns.
