People are being evacuated from the city of Volnovakha (Donetsk region), which is under shelling by Russian troops.
According to the head of the Donetsk regional military administration Pavel Kirilenko, the enemy is actually leveling the city to the ground.
There is no water, electricity, gas in the village. Local residents sit in basements and shelters.
– Shelling of Volnovakha is constantly continuing, which is actually razed to the ground. People are in shelters, basements… We continue to carry out the mission to evacuate local civilians,” Kirilenko said.
According to him, the appeals of the Ukrainian side, attempts to contact international organizations were not successful. After that, it was decided to carry out the evacuation on their own, with the help of law enforcement agencies, the headquarters of the National Police and the military.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine , 496 people, including 100 children, have been evacuated from Volnovakha and partially Volnovakha district.
– In total, during this time, as of the night of March 1-2, about 500 people were evacuated, – said Pavel Kirilenko.
He also published part of the lists of people evacuated from Volnovakha. The list contains the names of 25 people, in the future it will be updated:
Kirilenko stressed that the enemy does not allow the residents of Volnovakha to be taken out along the green humanitarian corridor. Therefore, vehicles for evacuation are placed in the places closest to the settlement.
For those who cannot evacuate, they try to supply food.
Kirilenko specified that on Sunday an attempt was made to evacuate all residents of Volnovakha, however, shelling of the evacuation corridor began at the entrances to the city.
He called on international humanitarian organizations to intervene and put pressure on the Russian Federation demanding a ceasefire.
