The Russian modernized self-propelled anti-tank gun “Sprut-SDM1” was dropped from a tower in order to test its strength, RIA Novosti reports, citing Rostec.
“As part of the drop tests, the capabilities of the machine were tested during parachute landing. We have created maximum overloads, the Sprut has successfully passed the tests, the functionality of none of the systems has suffered. The landing was carried out from a special tower, the next step was dropping the vehicle from the plane, ”said Bekkhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the Rostec armament cluster.
According to Vladimir Budaev, deputy chief designer of the Volgograd Tractor Plant, a modernized parachute for the Sprut-SDM1 light tank is being developed.
In September, RIA Novosti, citing Budaev, reported that the corporation was planning to create a wheeled tank from the Sprut-SDM1.
In October 2020, the American magazine The National Interest admitted that the Russian Sprut-SD self-propelled airborne anti-tank gun, acting as an intermediate link between an amphibious tank and a tank destroyer, is a really powerful weapon.
