Two Russian Su-27 fighters intercepted a group of French Air Force planes over the Black Sea. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The department noted that the planes were heading to the Russian borders.
“To identify air targets and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, two Su-27 fighters from the air defense duty of the Air Force and Air Defense Combine forces of the Southern Military District were taken into the air. Crews of Russian fighters identified the air targets as a group of French Air Force planes consisting of a KS-135 refueling aircraft and two Mirage-2000 tactical aircraft and escorted them over the Black Sea, ”the message says.
After the foreign aircraft turned away from the border, the Russian fighters returned to the home airfield, and the border was not violated.
Earlier it was reported that over the past week, dozens of reconnaissance aircraft from other countries were spotted near the borders of Russia: aircraft and drones. The military spotted 33 reconnaissance aircraft and 8 unmanned aerial vehicles. Based on weekly reports, such high activity was last seen in September last year.
