Tu-22M3 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are capable of carrying missiles with nuclear warheads.
Two long-range Tu-22M3 “Awl” bombers of the aerospace forces of the Russian Federation performed patrolling in the airspace of the Republic of Belarus
This was reported on Saturday, February 5, by Russian media with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
During the flight of Russian aircraft, the issue of solving joint tasks with aviation and air defense forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus was worked out.
The Russian Defense Ministry added that after completing all the assigned tasks, the bombers returned to the airfield based in Russia.
As you know, the Tu-22M strategic bomber was created to destroy local targets – primarily aircraft carrier strike groups. It is armed with long-range X-22 missiles with nuclear warheads with a capacity of up to a megaton.
Because of its appearance, this bomber has the unofficial name “Awl”. It is also called the “killer of aircraft carriers.”
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu accused the United States that American bombers allegedly practiced a nuclear strike on Russia in two different directions — from the west and the east.
