The entire time the Russian vessel was in Finnish territorial waters, it was accompanied by a patrol boat of the Finnish Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard and the Finnish Border Guard recorded the illegal crossing of the maritime border by a Russian vessel on Friday, July 26. The ship ignored the warning from Finnish border guards and sailed about 1.2 nautical miles into Finnish territorial waters in the Gulf of Finland.

Yle reports this with reference to the Finnish Ministry of Defense.

“The Russian vessel is suspected of violating Finland's maritime borders. According to the Border Guard, this is the Russian research vessel Mikhail Kazansky. It entered Finnish territorial waters in the area south of Hamina,” the publication reported.

The entire time the Russian vessel was in Finnish territorial waters, it was accompanied by a coast guard patrol boat, which attempted to establish radio contact with the border violators. But the Russian ship ignored the signals from the Finnish side and after some time, the Mikhail Kazansky simply left the territorial waters of the neighboring country.

The border guard is investigating the incident with the Russian research vessel, which is classified as a violation of territorial borders.

Recall that military aircraft from China and Russia approached Alaska. According to experts, Beijing thus warned Washington that in the event of war, it could directly threaten the United States and Canada with airstrikes on their territory.
