Russian scientists from the NTI Competence Center “Digital Materials Science: New Materials and Substances” on the basis of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University have developed a unique technology for water purification. RIA Novosti reports.

The development involves the production of sorbents based on graphene oxide – superhydrophobic aerogels that allow water to be purified from organic contaminants, including dyes, solvents and other wastes from light industry enterprises. Experts believe they have found a way to make up for the growing lack of fresh water.

It is planned to further optimize the composition and structure of the airgel, for example, to add silver nanoparticles to it to provide a bactericidal effect. The development will appear on the market approximately in 2025-2026.

Earlier, scientists from the Institute of Ecology of the National Research University Higher School of Economics identified the cause of the melting of underwater permafrost in the East Siberian Arctic shelf. According to the results of the study, the key role is played not only by the increase in the temperature of seawater, but also by the migration of salt ions, for example, NaCl.
