Russian scientists have developed a nanomembrane that can instantly cleanse the air from viruses and microorganisms, including coronavirus. It was created at the Center for Photonics and Quantum Materials of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. Izvestia writes about this.
Due to the electric current, the membrane can be heated up to hundreds of degrees Celsius in the open air. This is the main difference from ultraviolet radiation. Nanomembrane does not lead to ionization and side effects. The device works in pulses. It heats up to 100 degrees in microseconds and immediately cools down to room temperature. This happens locally: the room itself is not heated, all viruses are destroyed, the air is sterilized.
“Heating the membrane to 100-150 degrees will instantly kill both viruses and microorganisms,” said Skoltech professor Albert Nasibulin.
According to him, there have not yet been materials in the world that would simultaneously filter the air and warm up. Therefore, the Russian invention is unique. Skolkovo scientists have already proven that the membrane is capable of destroying all known viruses, including COVID-19.
MEPhI does not exclude that in the future the membrane can be used in hospitals, transport, places of large gatherings of people. It is enough to integrate it into air conditioners and air purifiers.
