Russian scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) have determined the time it takes for the human brain to memorize new words. The results of their research are published in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience.
Scientists conducted an experiment in which eight volunteers took part. They were asked to memorize eight new words, half of which were similar in semantics to the real ones, and the rest did not make sense. The authors of the scientific work traced how the brain activity changes during memorization. It turned out that the connections in the brain necessary for memorization appear within one to two hours. Previously, it was believed that this requires one day.
The results of the study can help in the diagnosis of speech abnormalities and the development of new teaching methods.
