Russian scientists first used quantum computer to decode virus genome

by alex

Information about the latest achievement of domestic scientists has appeared on the network. For the first time, they were able to decipher the genome of a virus using a quantum computer.

We are talking about the so-called sequencing process, within the framework of which specialists “unravel” the primary structure of the nucleic acid, reports Lenta.ru. It happens as follows: first, the DNA is split into fragments – the so-called oligonucleotides.

Then scientists determine the sequence of the nucleotides of the fragments and, using algorithms, identify the places where overlap occurs between the oligonucleotides.

And if templates are usually used to assemble the genome, then this time we are talking about reconstruction from scratch. And this, as you can understand, is still a task of high computational complexity.

Experts noted that computers of a new generation (including quantum ones) must sooner or later make a breakthrough in this area.
