Scientists at the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg have begun testing a lactic acid bacteria-based vaccine against COVID-19 coronavirus infection they are developing using sections of the alpha and delta strains of the coronavirus.

This was reported by TASS with reference to the head of the department of molecular microbiology of the institute, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Suvorov.

According to him, when creating the first version of lactic acid culture, scientists focused on the very first version of the virus and continue to work on this version, because the strain still circulates in different countries in different proportions.

“We are now starting to dominate the“ delta ”variant. We have already made an option, it includes sections of the coronavirus protein corresponding to alpha and delta strains. They are included in the composition of the new vaccine candidate, “Suvorov said.

He also said that the drug is currently being tested in animals as part of preclinical studies.

Earlier it was reported that in the course of animal tests of the coronavirus vaccine in the form of a fermented milk product, the formation of antibodies was found.
