Roskomnadzor claims that the Navalny app is used “to promote the activities and implementation of activities of extremist organizations.”
The application has become unavailable for many users
Mobile operators and providers in Russia have started blocking the Navalny app. The fact that the application was generally unavailable on Monday, August 23, was reported by the GlobalCheck project, a service for researching blocking in the CIS countries. It allows you to check the availability of IP addresses and domains in real time using different protocols of Internet providers.
On August 20, Roskomnadzor demanded that Apple and Google remove the Navalny app from the App Store and Google Play, respectively. The demand was justified by the fact that the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation demands “to restrict access to information resources related to the organization of the work of the Anti-Corruption Fund.” Roskomnadzor said that this application is used “to promote the activities and implementation of activities of extremist organizations.”
The “Navalny” application contains messages from the site of Alexei Navalny. In addition, it has a Smart Voting feature. The blocking of Navalny's website itself and more than 40 other resources associated with the Anti-Corruption Fund began by Roskomnadzor in July.
