According to the press service of the Kalashnikov concern, the replacement of the remaining 100,000 Makarov pistols in the Russian Interior Ministry with new modular pistols designed by Dmitry Lebedev (MPL or PL-15) will take place in the near future. The contract is being prepared now.
According to the site kp.ru, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia may receive several versions of the Lebedev pistol, which can be equipped with special sighting devices and flashlights, but without the ability to install silencers on them or conduct continuous automatic fire. They will also be more compact than the model released for the special forces of the Russian Guard.
A similar contract was previously signed with the Russian Guard. She ordered the MPL in two versions: a standard version for troops and a version for performing special combat missions for special forces soldiers with a silencer (respectively with barrels – 120 mm and 207 mm, as well as magazines for 15 and 30 rounds of 9×19 mm caliber).
– The MPL comes to Rosgvardia with a trigger mechanism, which provides for automatic firing only with single shots, but if necessary, it can be replaced with a trigger, which also issues a burst, – Valery Gribakin, an official representative of the Rosgvardia, revealed the capabilities of the new weapon to kp.ru.
By the way, in the Russian special forces they loved the famous Stechkin automatic pistol (APS) precisely for the long barrel, large clip and the ability to fire in bursts.
The new MPL is more powerful, more convenient and lighter (800 grams) of imported pistols that are in service with the special forces: the Glock has a weight of 900 grams, and the Beretta 920 – 950 grams.
Also, by the end of the year, the new Lebedev pistol will appear on the civilian market in the form of a compact traumatic pistol (PLC-T) weighing 710 grams (without cartridges). It will be lighter and smaller than the combat model, and its clip will hold 14 traumatic cartridges of 10×28 mm caliber. The traumatic version of Lebedev's pistol has already been certified and is on display at the Army-2021 military-technical forum.
