According to the Turkish authorities, there were no casualties in the incident.
On Sunday, November 24, a Russian passenger plane Sukhoi Superjet, which arrived from Sochi, caught fire while landing at the Turkish airport in Antalya 100.
This was reported by the Turkish publication TRT Haber.
The report says that the fire in the left engine broke out immediately after landing. The airport fire department quickly intervened and extinguished the fire. 89 passengers and 6 crew members were evacuated.
There were no casualties in the incident, according to Turkish authorities.
They are trying to pull the completely burnt plane away from the runway, and landings at the airport have been cancelled until 3 a.m.
“Departures from the airport are carried out from a military runway,” the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.
The Russian Telegram channel Shot clarified that during landing the plane hit the runway with its left engine. At the same time, the airport dispatchers provided the pilots with all the necessary information about the difficult weather conditions, including strong gusty winds.
After the incident, severe panic and stampede began among the passengers. Miraculously, no one was hurt.
What is known about the plane
The Superjet that burned at Antalya airport was seven years old — the plane had been flying for Azimuth Airlines since December 2017
The flight from Sochi to Turkey was the third for the SSJ-100 today. At night and in the morning, the plane carried out the Sochi-Samarkand-Sochi flight.
What's wrong with Russian planes?
It should be noted that the number of accidents in Russia has sharply increased after the introduction of US and EU sanctions due to the war in Ukraine.
At least 74 different aircraft breakdowns in the air were recorded in 2023, which is 38 more than in 2022, according to the German research company Jacdec.
Most often, Russian plane crashes were associated with engine fires or failures during flights, damage to the chassis during landing, as well as flaps malfunctions, leading to deviation from the course.
Recall that earlier, aviation expert, analyst Konstantin Krivolap reported that Russian civil aviation has no future, since due to sanctions imposed by Western countries, Russian airlines' planes do not undergo maintenance and there are no spare parts for them.
