The State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF) will allow operators to continue using frequencies for LTE, but under certain conditions. Companies will have to build 4G networks in villages – in 99% of settlements with a population of less than a thousand people.
We are talking about frequencies of 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 2.5-2.7 GHz. The original permission to use them was issued to operators in 2011. Its term expires in September 2021. If the companies fulfill the conditions, they will be able to use the frequencies for another ten years.
Firstly, from 2023, operators will have to build LTE networks only on domestic equipment. Second, they will have to expand their LTE coverage.
Operators have already raised concerns about these requirements. A representative of VimpelCom, for example, said that now there is not enough domestic LTE equipment on the market.
