Russian operators recorded an increase in the number of outgoing SMS amid disruptions in social networks

MOSCOW, October 5. / TASS /. MTS, Beeline, Megafon and Tele2 recorded an increase in the number of outgoing SMS messages, as well as voice traffic amid a large-scale failure of Facebook services the day before. TASS was informed about this today in the press services of the companies.

“MTS analyzed traffic in its own network after the failure of the social networks Facebook, Instagram and the WhatsApp messenger on the evening of October 4. Due to the inaccessibility of these popular services, MTS subscribers began to actively use traditional communication channels, as a result of which, within a few hours, the number of outgoing SMS increased 4.6 times, and the duration of calls – 2.5 times compared to the same hours in previous days, “- noted in the message of MTS.

According to the press service of “Beeline”, the number of outgoing SMS increased almost four times, the number of calls – 1.8 times, and their duration – 2.9 times in comparison with the calls and SMS recorded in the network a few days before the failure …

The operator also noted an increase in the number of registrations on Telegram by 143% in comparison with the average daily rate.

Tele2 reported that on October 4, after 18:00 Moscow time, an increase in voice traffic and a decrease in the volume of data transmission in the operator's network were recorded in comparison with the previous Monday. It is clarified that from 18:00 to 19:00 Moscow time, voice traffic in the network increased by 3%, while the peak (+ 21%) was reached between 22:00 and 23:00 Moscow time.

Megafon also noted an increase in the number of calls in the network in the period from 19:00 to 02:00 by 20%, and their duration – by 19% compared to the same period last week. “The number of sms has more than doubled. Our network has sufficient capacity, so we did not notice an increase in the load,” the press service of the company noted.

On October 4, users around the world reported a massive disruption to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
