Athletes of the Russian national surfing team Dmitry Ilyasov and Maya Rudik received corneal burns while training in the waters of Kamchatka. Rudik announced this in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

She noted that she flew to Kamchatka on September 22 and settled on the Khalaktyrsky beach. “The guys said that many have some kind of eye problems after the ocean. But for some reason, many were sure that the matter was in the scorching sun, ”the girl recalled.

Rudik said that she trained a lot in Bali, so she got used to working under the scorching sun. To avoid it, the athlete went ashore early in the morning. “But already 20 minutes later I felt that my eyes were hurting, and even some kind of veil appeared. Even then it became clear that it was definitely not the sun, ”she added.

According to the newspaper, it was the surfers who were the first to discover that something was wrong off the coast of Kamchatka. Unusual symptoms (vomiting, fever) appeared in campers in two different camps at once. And soon a storm began, and many dead marine life were thrown ashore, and the sea foam turned a poisonous yellow color.

Rudik and Ilyasov went to the hospital, where they were diagnosed with burns of the cornea of the eyes. Now they will be treated by an ophthalmologist in Moscow. At the same time, Rudik said that she would personally file a statement with the police on the fact that dangerous chemicals were found in the water. The athlete stressed that she considers it her duty.

On October 2, a lot of dead fish, octopuses, crabs, seals and other marine animals were thrown onto the shore of Khalaktyrsky beach in Kamchatka. The sea water was taken for examination – a preliminary analysis showed an almost fourfold increase in the content of oil products. Phenol was also found in the water. According to preliminary information, a private oil tanker was the culprit.
