Izvestia reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense has begun to train commanders of unmanned aircraft units. The military will study at universities on how to conduct reconnaissance using drones, hit ground targets and transmit data about them.
The new specialty will be called “The use of units with unmanned aerial vehicles.” The recruitment of future commanders will begin next year.
Colonel Alexander Perendzhiev, associate professor at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, said that now drones are used in almost all branches of the armed forces, so such specialists are needed. “Drones are needed for reconnaissance, for covering columns on the march, and for protecting objects. In the future, they will be very useful for us to protect the southern borders, taking into account the current situation there, ”the expert explained.
