A court in the Sverdlovsk region sentenced an investigator to two years in prison for knocking down pedestrians sitting in the middle of the road. This is reported by URA.RU.
The accident happened in October 2019. The court established that investigator Ilya Onyshko was returning from work at night. In the dark, he knocked down drunk pedestrians who were sitting in the middle of the road. The defendant immediately called an ambulance for the victims. They received assistance, but a month later one of them died in the hospital.
At the trial, Onyshko noted that the prosecution had falsified the visibility data on the road, indicating 104 meters instead of the actual 20. The investigator also denied that he had violated the speed limit.
The brother of the deceased in the accident also spoke out against the real term for the accused. He said that his relative had been convicted several times and regularly abused alcohol.
Nevertheless, the court found Onyshko guilty under part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of traffic rules that resulted in the death of a person”). The investigator intends to appeal the verdict.
