The cure for the smell disorder after COVID-19, which is called parosmia, is not accelerated by medication. Such a consequence of the coronavirus was called by infectious disease doctor Ilya Akinfiev, his words are quoted by URA.RU.
“Albeit rarely, but I have patients who complain not about the absence of a smell, but even worse – about pathological odors, that is, they do not feel pleasant smells, only putrid ones,” the specialist explained.
Anything that has been tried out of the drug treatment has not worked for the patients, he said. He noted that parosmia passes by itself over time, but for everyone in different ways. On average, in most patients, olfaction disorders disappear within two months, however, there are a number of patients who have not had positive dynamics for more than six months.
Earlier, therapist, nutritionist Nadezhda Chernyshova warned Russians about problems with alcohol perception after COVID-19. She noted that usually with parosmia, foods “change” the smell and taste in the perception of the patient, one of such groups is alcoholic beverages.
