The country said that Poland is the most attacked country in the European Union.
Poland has identified a Russian group that planned to influence the country's presidential elections through disinformation and the creation of instability.
This was reported by Reuters.
Poland will hold presidential elections in May 2025, and the authorities fear that Russian intelligence services may interfere, including in revenge for supporting Ukraine. Poland, as a key supplier of aid to Ukraine, has become a target for Russian and Belarusian spies. Moscow and Minsk deny any involvement in sabotage.
“In recent days, a Russian group has been identified, another one inspired and prepared by the Russian military intelligence GRU, whose goal is to influence the elections in Poland,” said Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski.
According to a representative of the Polish authorities, one of the groups was allegedly engaged in disseminating disinformation and recruiting people to undermine political stability in Poland. However, he did not specify other details regarding this activity.
“We have very effective services… that are engaged in the protection of the Republic of Poland. They have knowledge, and we identify this as actions aimed at influencing the elections in Poland. Russia is waging a cyber war against Poland. We are the most attacked country in the European Union, and the elections should be a test of whether Polish democracy will survive,” Gawkowski noted.
Recall that the opposition in Poland called the statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticizing presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki “interference in the elections.”
